SP371 - Amos

SP371 Amos, a male pygmy sperm whale (Kogia breviceps), stranded September 11, 2002 at Sea Rim State Park in Sabine Pass, TX. Amos was almost 8 feet long and weighed an estimated 400 lbs at stranding. He was taken to the TMMSN's rehabilitation facility in Galveston where his condition was monitored very closely and he was given fluids and tube fed a liquid diet. As he was unable to swim on his own, he was supported in a sling 24 hours a day by TMMSN staff and volunteers. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his illnesses and passed away September 13, 2002.
