GA706 - Hope

GA706, nicknamed Hope, was an adult female pan-tropical spotted dolphin (Stenella attenuata) that stranded near Freeport, TX, in Brazoria County, on August 4, 1995. Her full name was “Dante’s Hope” named after the boy who found her, Raphael Dante Jackson. Her initial condition very serious and she was unresponsive for some time. Throughout her rehabilitation, her condition constantly changed over time, a continuous roller coaster. After two months of
supportive care, her condition rapidly deteriorated and the decision was made to euthanize her on October 10, 1995. During rehabilitation, she displayed some degree of brain impairment. Upon necropsy, it was discovered that she had parasites in her brain in addition to other problems.
