CC207, an adult female melon-headed whale (Peponocephala electra), stranded May 21, 2003 at the 31-mile marker on Padre Island National Seashore in Kennedy County, TX. She was named Star because she had a white star shaped marking near her dorsal fin. She also had cookie cutter shark bites and several larger healing shark bites, though none of the wounds appeared significant enough to strand her. Although she initially made attempts to swim on her own, her condition continued to deteriorate overnight and she died the following day. Necropsy revealed that she was pregnant and meningitis was attributed to the cause of death for the whale and her unborn calf.
