EDUCATION

Education

The Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network (TMMSN) aims to increase awareness to the threats facing marine mammals on our coast and educate the public about how to respond to marine mammal strandings, all of which is key to conservation.

The TMMSN education program consists of:

  • Educational booths at formal and informal venues

  • Group tours of the TMMSN Rehabilitation and Research Center in Galveston, TX

  • Presentations outlining the mission of TMMSN given to students and other organized groups

  • Whales on Wheels outreach program including marine mammal presentations, specimens and mock stranding demonstrations, for students of all ages

  • Raising public awareness of marine mammal protection through interpretive signage and placard placement to educate about the dangers of feeding wild dolphins, proper disposal of recreational fishing gear, and marine mammal safe viewing guidelines

All proceeds from education event fees support TMMSN conservation activities
